Yoga Gets the Gold
U.S. Snowboarder Jamie Anderson won gold at the first ever women’s slopestyle event at the Olympics in Sochi earlier this week, and she credits yoga to helping her get there.

Super Bowl champs Seattle Seahawks (this Coloradan’s still crying) convincingly won Sunday’s game and yoga may have a part to play in the victory. The team regularly practices yoga, meditates, and their star QB Russell Wilson is a major proponent of the practice. And as The New York Times was kind enough to point out, Broncos Defensive End Von Miller expressed his desire to get away from yoga, to focus more on football. Later and possibly consequentially, Von Miller tore his anterior cruciate ligament and was unable to play in the big game. Excuse me while I go look for some tissues…
You Gonna Finish that Yoga Mat?
In the world of weird (and gross) yoga news, sandwich chain Subway has promised to remove an ingredient from their bread called Azodiacarbonamide that is also used to make yoga mats. After more than 58,000 people signed a petition asking Subway to ban this chemical (that's already illegal in many other countries due to respiratory issues), the fast-food chain agreed to remove the “ingredient.” Even though, “it is USDA- and FDA-approved ingredient.” And if you think that’s Subway’s only gross factor, think again.
Too Hot to Handle
Yoga is a fantastic way for expectant mothers to stay healthy and calm during their pregnancy, but a new study out of Canada is warning mothers to be wary of Bikram yoga. For people who don't know, Bikram yoga is a heated yoga class where the room is usually around 105 degrees and at 40% humidity. At the end of class, you pretty much feel like you just got out of a pool because you are soaking wet. The yoga part of Bikram yoga isn’t dangerous to mothers, but the heat is. Hyperthermia (a higher than normal core body temperature) is dangerous to fetuses and they may experience growth problems if being exposed to this higher temperature. So stick to normal yoga classes throughout your pregnancy to keep you and baby happy and healthy!
